Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 500g 5% Fat Beef Mince
  • 2 Garlic Cloves [Minced]
  • 1 tsp Grated Fresh Ginger
  • 1 Spring Onion [Finely Sliced]
  • ½ tsp Chinese Five Spice
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tbsp Wholemeal Breadcrumbs
  • Low Calorie Cooking Spray

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Light Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Tomato puree
  • 1 tsp Garlic Granules
  • 1 tsp Grated Ginger
  • ½ tsp Chilli Flakes
  • 2 tbsp Water
  • 1 tsp Cornflour Mixed with 1 tbsp Cold Water
  • 1 tsp Sesame Seeds [Optional 1 Syn]

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Meatballs

  • In a large bowl, mix the mince, garlic, ginger, spring onion, soy sauce, five spice, egg, and breadcrumbs.
  • Use your hands to combine and shape into 20 small meatballs.
  • Spray a frying pan or skillet with low-calorie cooking spray and brown the meatballs on medium heat for around 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally until golden on all sides.
  • Once cooked through, remove from the pan and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Sauce

  • n a bowl or jug, combine all of the sauce ingredients except the cornflour mix.
  • Pour the sauce mixture into the same pan, bring to a gentle simmer.
  • Stir in the cornflour slurry and continue to cook for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Serve the meatballs into a bowl or on a plate and pour over the sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional).
